What to expect at your first fertility consultation

A first fertility visit is a conversation, not a procedure. What happens, what to bring, and the questions worth asking.

Back to journal

The first fertility consultation is mostly listening. Your doctor will ask about your cycles, medical history, how long you have been trying, and any previous tests or treatment — for both partners, because fertility is shared.

Bring any previous reports, scans or prescriptions you have. They save time and sometimes save you from repeating tests.

From there, a stepwise plan is made: usually basic tests first, then treatment options discussed only once the picture is clear. The simplest appropriate option comes first.

Good questions to ask: What are the possible causes in our case? Which tests matter first? What are our options, in order? A good consultation ends with clarity, not pressure.

At MERIVA, fertility consultations with Dr. Sandhya run in evening hours, so both partners can attend after work.
